Team News – Week 4, 19th May 2018

Its week 4 of the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire League and after a mixed weekend for both sides last week its time to go again.

Last Saturday saw the first XI play their first game of the 2018 season away at Whaley Bridge and what a game it was to kick the season off. Newton elected to bat first and get a comfortable 210-5 off our 45 overs. G. Finan scoring 34, N. Tansella top scoring with 36, M. Stringer 35, L. Turner 32 not out and the return of A. Turner saw him make 33 not out.

Whaleys reply saw early wickets for J. Cragg & J. Hoctor but big hitting in the middle order saw it go down to the wire. M. Stringer picking 3 wickets up in the last 3 overs saw us bowl Whaley out for 206 on the last ball of the innings which meant us picking up all 20 points.

The 2nd XI didn’t have such a good day in the office at home to Tintwistle. Newton elected to bowl first and managed to bowl the visitors out for 142 in 43 over thanks to 4-41 from C. Barnard and 3-20 from M. Hyde.

Our reply wasn’t all smooth sailing as wickets fell in regular intervals as no one was able to stay around for much time apart from G. Penney who made 32. The highlight of the innings was R. Bent who managed to see the final over out for a maiden.
