Team News – Week 7, 9th June 2018

Its week 7 of the Intersport Monkhouse Derbyshire & Cheshire

Last Saturday saw the first XI play at Home against Hadfield.

Newton won the toss and with cloudy overhead conditions and a Plethora of bowling to choose from elected to field, However……….

Hadfield had other ideas and bludgeoned the ball to all parts eventually reaching 279 for the loss of 9 wickets, I Morton was the pick of the Hadfield Batsman with 69 off 53 balls. The pick of Newtons bowling was Matty Stringer and Andy Turner both picking up 3 wickets for 50 and 56 respectively. Had Newton held onto their Catches the final score would have been a lot different, I was reliably told that 11, yes eleven went down.

In Reply Newton wasted no time in ending proceedings, There was a slight resistance at the top of the order With Gary Finan scoring 36 off 51 and Greg Johnson 30 off 29 balls other than that not much to mention…. Newton were all out for 114.

The Second Team narrowly missed out to an Inform Broadbottom side, Having lost the toss Newton were asked to Bat. Jan Maden was Very Steady at the top of the order scoring 43 off 106 balls. Wickets then continued to fall, Then at 91 for 7 George Ashworth meandered to the Wicket and started his very own Onslaught on the Broadbottom Bowling attack smashing 82 Not Out off 61 balls including 14 x 4’s and 2 x 6’s, George was well supported  by Joe Hoctor who chipped in with his very own 13 Not out. Newton finishing on 165 for 7 off their 45 Overs. M Greenhalgh was the pick of the Broady bowlers picking up 5 for 33 off 11 overs.

Broadbottoms Reply got off to  Poor start as J. Brotherton was caught by Mike Hyde with only 4 on he board.

Greenhalgh then continued his impressive first half with 42 off 58 balls and was supported well by L.Turner (not to be mistaken for our own) 40 from 39 and Nick Courtney 25 from 22.

Broady finally knocked off Newton’s 167 for the loss of 6 wickets inside 33 overs

The pick of Newtons Bowlers were Martin Pottage and Mike Hyde both with 3 for 32
