Last Sunday was the DCCL under 13s finals day up at Newton where 3 games were played throughout the day.
Our under 13s were participating in the finals day up at Mount Pleasant on Sunday and come out as winners! 2 fantastic performances against 2 unbeaten sides made it 3rd time lucky for all involved.
The first game for our boys saw them take on Hayfield who came first in the south division and had won all their games. Newton batted first and were soon struggling as there were 2 – 2 after the 2nd over and then 18 – 3 after 6. A fantastic innings from C. Barnard following retiring on 26 and then some big hitting from T. Taylor at the death saw Newton finish on 101 – 4 off 20 with T. Taylor also retiring on 27. An all round fantastic fielding performance followed as they restricted Hayfield to 78 – 8 off 20 with all the wickets being spread along the board and a final against local rivals Compstall that beat Hazel Grove in the semi- final was to follow.
After a short break in games it was Compstall that were batting first in the final and the fantastic bowling and fielding from the semi-final against Hayfield followed into the final. With 8 overs to spare Compstall were 44 all out with R. Goodhall, T. Finan and H. Wallace getting 2 wickets a piece. It only took 10 overs for the Newton boys to get the runs needed with C. Barnard yet again retiring on 27 and getting the total only 1 down.
Congratulations to all the players & coaches involved in the year and their 2 fantastic performances on the weekend.
