Saturday saw the First team “entertain” (we use this word very loosly) Whaley Bridge.
Newton Won the toss and elected to bat.
Loose shots early doors and a few questionable LBW decisions saw us in the mire at 80 for 6.
A middle order resurgence from Stones (22), Pottage (29), Ashworth (42 not out) and Grime (18) enabled us to finish with a score that gave us a chance to defend, the innings closed on 175 all out in the 43rd over.
In reply wickets fell regularly and Newton should have won the game but Whaley’s skipper got 50 and then Ivan? Managed to steer his side home putting on 30+ for the last wicket.
Whaley 20 points Newton 8 points
MOTM, Right Arm Rocket for his 42 Not Out.
A.T (knee / possible gout) and Stones (hamstring / possible gout) doubtful for next week, the timing of the injuries might seem coincidental but if truth be known Old Glossop is one of my favourite grounds, with spiffing teas and a cracking pint.
The Second team had a much better day at Tintwistle
Tintwistle batter first and were dismissed for 120 with Matty Edwards continuing his fine form with the ball and picking up 3 for 19 and Martin 3 for 18…
In reply Newton won by 8 Wickets with Mark B reaching 50 and Jan Maden 20+ Matty Edwards also contributed with the bat with a score of 30+
MOTM Matty Edward who was in the Runs and Wickets
Sorry if it’s a bit vague, I’d had a few pints when I was told all the info from the 2’s, Memory doesn’t serve me as it once did.
I had the pleasure of watching the Majority of the 3rd team on Sunday, we won a close game by 12 runs. (I didn’t stay till the end and my source was Spider so may not be accurate, wouldn’t surprise me if we lost)
Having arrived and the Newton being 75 for 5 the outcome looked bleak, however……
Matty Stringer whapped a Ton and we managed to post 227, In reply Droylsden were 215 all out.
MOTM Matty Stringer Ton and 3 for 9
Well played 2’s and 3’s Improvement required from the 1’s
If the captains of the 2nd X1 and 3rd X1 would like to supply me with more info from their games I’ll be more than happy to add it in as I’m writing a lot of this blind, (not literally) ….
Have a good week everyone!
****REMEMBER WE’LL BE OPEN FOR ENG Vs COLOMBIA AND WE HAVE OUR QUIZ NIGHT ON FRIDAY 6TH JULY****
