SATURDAYS GAMES

Last weekend the First Team entertained Hazel Grove,

Newton lost the toss and Hazel Grove elected to Bat.

HG struggled to 135 all out, thanks to a marvellous spell of bowling from Matty Stringer finishing with figures of 6 for 39 from 12.

Only J Dennis and D Nunn troubled the scorers with 21 and 31 respectively

The innings closed in the final over with the right arm rocket Ashworth taking the final wicket with only 2 balls to spare.

Newtons Reply got off to a poor start with both openers back in the shed with only 30 on the board.

A fine partnership of 93 between Olly Marrow (44 not out) and Matty Stringer (55) took us close to the finish line and We knocked off HG’s 135 in the 34th Over for the loss of 3 wickets.

(MOTM MATTY STRINGER 55 runs and 6 for 39)

The Second team travelled to Dove, won the toss and had a bowl,

Mike Hyde the pick of the bowlers picking up 3 for 39 off 12, Dove finished on 172/9.

Newtons reply got off to a poor start with Jan back in the shed for a Duck. This brought Matty Edwards to the crease who put on an brilliant 107 run partnership with young Charlie Barnard who finished 10 runs short of his maiden 50.

From 2/1 to 109/2 wickets then fell at a regular pace until Mike Hyde steered the ship home finishing with 27 not out and finishing the match with the Tetley challenge…

(MOTM MATTY EDWARDS 72 runs and 2 for 22)

SUNDAYS CUP GAME

Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about Sundays games……

The first team lost to Tintwistle in a game that Newton never really got started in.

Newton won the toss and elected to bat and only managed to scrape to 126, In reply Tintwistle knocked off for the loss of only 3 wickets, sorry for the lack of info but no scores are on the App.

The second team travelled to Birch and having lost the toss were asked to bat, Newton managed 183/7 from their overs but unfortunately Birch knocked them off with the loss of only 3 wickets.

Newton CC would like to wish Tintwistle and Birch Vale the very best of luck in the Semi Finals
